5lab3 Black question

Just bought a non-DS pair of black 5lab3's. They're in pretty good shape, but I had a few questions for those with more experience.

I've heard the 3M can start to chip off. Is there anything I can do to protect it? If I spray some waterproof protectant will it hurt the 3M?

Also - the blue soles are getting a little yellow. Will sea glow and other similar products help? Or will they ruin the blue color?
