1987 could be considered to be the greatest year for Nike in its history – with much of the credit going to Tinker Hatfield’s ‘Air’ Pack. One of the original five is the Air Trainer 1, which will also celebrate its 25th Anniversary this year by returning in the original Chlorophyll colorway that Jon McEnroe made so famous on the tennis courts; we already saw a return of the Chlorophyll as recent as 2008 as well as in 2010 as part of the Trainer Legacy Pack, but if you missed out on those, keep your radar locked in on the Holiday 2012 season as the Premium-grade Chlorophyll and new ‘Hazelnut’ colorway has been confirmed for a release at $110 a pop. Stay tuned for more on the Air Trainer 1 releases for this year, and let us know if the Chlorophyll Air Trainer 1 is a must-cop for you! via TSG

This may be the beginning of the end for me.

On a related retro sidenote, I played 4 sets of tennis on clay today in my Trainer SC2 Citrons and they were

most likely will cop . been a big fan of the shoe for a little while but still haven't ever copped

How much stuff are they going to drop next Christmas, damn

Haha, Wally was all over this even before the thread was made!

But just based on that preliminary catalog pic, there might be some concerns Nike's just using the 2002/2008/2009 chassis, which some of you guys will know was different from the 2000 retro. Toebox, tongue, materials and more importantly, the fit... will need to keep an eye on those things.

Rich ~ What are you, nuts!?  In the SC2's!?  Dude... clay~!  Oh that hurts!  Stuff doesn't come off!  HarTru right?

Wonder if "premium-grade" is something worth lookin forward to? Anyhow, 1st thread in a while thats goin to be intresting to follow up

All in on these, I can let other releases fall by the wayside as long as I get to pick up a pair of these.

If Nike was smart they would send Wally a sample so he could tell them whats wrong and what's right...

trust me you guys arent in b4 wally!
and I have a little more optimistic being that they are "Premium"  but as we all now sometimes the "Premium" doesn't necessarily mean that!

This.
Hopefully these are similar in quality to the SC IIs.

I'm more concerned that by calling them premium they'll limit what shops get these. Make these a wide release GR and put a little bit of marketing behind them.

Yeah, Wally was nice enough to let some of us know before hand about the release of these.
I can't get too excited about these though. Like some have mentioned Nike's definition of "Premium" varies widely. If its that same synthetic stuff used on the 2008 and 2010 then its a no thanks for me.

Do I speak to soon when I say if we have the 2002-09' at1 we already have 2012? Nike prove me wrong and not in the disappointing way either.

awe man, are they gonna do the toe-box with those big spaced-out holes
like they now put on the ATIII (ATSC)?

it's one the least favorite "updates" on the air trainers - changes the look

if they end up dropping with that toe-box...no cop
(pics disappoint because of this one factor - and i was on board even with sub-par quality concerns)
upset actually

Thanks Nike. Luckily classics like these don't seem to get the crazy amounts of hype so they should be an easy grab. Honestly, give me a pair or 2 of those McEnroes and they can keep EVERYTHING else.

Let's have a little faith in Nike. After all, the QS SCII's didn't have a Premium label and we all saw how those turned out-- some of the best Nike Retro quality in years. Maybe someone over there is actually putting their best effort in doing these right, or at least close to right!

^
ya, well - the sc II's had the same type of holes on the toe-box as the original

the widely spaced holes look like crap

can't believe i'm the only one that thinks it's a deal breaker

Damn, nice year! we got the SC2's last year, got the Flight One's, DT2's, getting Pippens and Barkleys, Marinos, and these? NICE

Thanks for the shout out.

My optimism is at an all-time low based on a few key factors.

A few have seen actual samples and compare them directly to the 2008 era mold.
The 2008 overseas chlorophyll had the official name, NIKE AIR TRAINER 1 MID PREMIUM, as well. And we know what that gets us.. This is Nike..
Price point is $20 higher than the 2000 and 2009 ubiq released pairs. Even the Legacy package split the price up to $90/pair.
So what are we getting for $110?
Perforated toe box holes, as mentioned by Green rhino, are 100% identical to the 2009 era of air trainer III retros. Both in size, and spacing.. This is Nike. It's likely the same pleather seen on the 09 med. balls.

There's not much else to do or say but to let this play itself out... If anything, these flop, and I can scoop some up at $60 bucks.... These aren't worth a penny over $70 bucks.

On the bright side, many don't have to pay $180 for 2002 or 2008s any more.. So this will open things up for a bigger audience.

The use of the word premium for something that should be the norm is relatively amusing

The color has changed over the years. The grey suede is becoming brighter and brighter, although still a subtle difference to the uninformed. The green has also gone from a bright rich grass green to a more chlorophyll color. Its funny that these are now titled chlorophylls when the originials dont even resemble them.

Here is a good shot of the 2002s on the left and the 2008s on the right. Other than the NIKE on the forefoot strap being darker on the newer releases, these are basically replicas of one another. One could argue that the eyelet on the newer ones is a brighter lime green compared to the 2002s. You could also say that the medium grey color on the 2008s is a shade or two brighter as well. As the retros continue, they seem to be going further and further from the dark rich bluish grey suede of the originials in favor of something alittle more drab.

Comparing the orginials on the far left, the 2000 edition (the 2nd over from the left) and the 2008 edition (far right pair) it looks like the 2008s are more along the same shape as the originals from 1990 and not the retros from 2000. its very much evident in this last shot. the two middle pairs seem wider at the ankle.

you can never get perfection. two steps forward, one step back. you get great effort on the latest shape change. but yet the color and materials are still not perfect. so its a tough situation to be in. Do you go with the 2000 with perfect material matching, wrong colors, and a shape thats just a bit off, or for the shoe with different materials, the same wrong colors, but a shape thats almost perfect. too bad they can never get it just right
Wally, if you don't mind, I took the liberty of reposting this.  This was from Jan 2008... funny how it might apply to the 2012 release as well.
An update would probably be to include the ones from the Bo Jackson pack.

Also... OG's... first time we'll see this tongue since the initial batch of OG's.
