Have you ever walked into Lids/Hatworld and immediately fell in love with a hat on the shelf? Yeah? Me too. You run over to the spot, scramble through all of the sizes, and find out THEY DON'T HAVE YOUR SIZE! OH NO! But hey, you love this hat so much, you buy 1 size up/down anyways.
I really want to wear this hat. But its too big/ too small for me! I'll look like a fool if i wear this! What now?
Well, you have come to the right place for this information.
There are many different procedures to doing this. However, the one that I do seems to do the job and is pretty easy.
SHRINKING YOUR HAT SIZE
Step one:
Take your hat and wet YOUR HEAD ONLY with hot water. Many people think wetting the sweat band will work better, but it doesn't. All wetting the sweatband does is make it smelly and gross.
Step two:
Put that hat on your head while it is wet. You may want to get a towel to dry the water dripping down your head.
Step three:
Take two rubber bands that stretch well. (Not the big thick ones, those will snap right away) Take the rubber bands and place them just like the following picture.
Step four:
Leave it on your head for about 1 hour and a half like this. You will feel it starting to get dry. Take the Rubber bands off first, then the hat. Some people believe that if you spray starch on the sweatband then it will be stiff and stay in this position.
Step five:
Enjoy your smaller sized hat.

Wear the hat for about an hour, and it should be the size of your head. You may take it off to air dry if it is still a little wet.
Step four:
Enjoy your bigger hat size.

THE PERFECT SOLUTION TO STRETCHING YOUR CAP
I just recently did this yesterday and it worked perfectly. Do this when your just chilling at your house or w/e.
Steps:
1. Find a towel that is not to thin but a little bit thick.
2. Put it on top of your head.
3. Get your fitted you want to stretch and put it in your head tight.
4. Do this for about 30min-1hour.
5. Take off the towel and feel the difference.
I'll take pictures when I have the time if you don't get what I'm saying.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. What do the rubber bands do?
A: The rubber bands act as a reinforcement to shrinking it to your head size. This helped me a lot, I got my size 7 1/4 hat to go down to a size 7.
2. Why do I have to wear the hat wet for?
A: Wearing the hat wet allows the hat to mold into your head size. This is the main part of shrinking/stretching.
3. Will this procedure always take an hour-2 hours?
A: No, the time varies depending on your head size.
I hope this guide helped you all. I know it may be a little rusty I just typed it up now. Thanks.

KEY THINGS TO REMEMBER...
If you make the cap wet, it will take on shape as it dries! If you don't provide the shape, it will shrink to its own smaller shape. If you want it to fit your head, dry it on your head. If you want it to be shaped like a coffee mug, dry it in a mug. If you use rubber bands and you make the rubber bands too tight, you will see rubber band marks
CLEANING A 59FIFTY...NEVER WASH THE CAP!
The cap is made of wool and you will ruin its shape. To clean the headband, take a wet washcloth and put a little detergent and a little Spray and Wash and gently rub down the headband with the wet wash cloth. After you have sufficiently cleaned the headband of sweat stains and soil, rinse the wash cloth out with clear water and once again wash down the headband, cleaning up any left soap. Let dry and your cap will be ready to go again. Some sweat stains stay in but at least the cap will be clean.
DUSTY CAPS?
Things like a little cat hair or lint, just take some masking tape (I like the 2 inch size) and wrap some of it around your fingers so the sticky side is exposed and dab the hat with the tape. The tape will pick up all the lint and anything else on the cap.
JUST A LITTLE TOO BIG?
Take a spray bottle of water and spray the headband with the water, then let dry in the sun on top of an empty coffee can. Or, just let it dry without being elevated by the can. You can also dry it with a good portable hair dryer.
DRYING
DO NOT put them in the dryer!
TOO TIGHT?
What happens is the sweatband does its job and collects any moisture when you are wearing the cap. Without a head to hold its shape and size, it will shrink as it dries. For starters, grab your cap from the rear of the cap, place it over your knee and give a good hard yank. You will hear some popping noises. That's O.K. Stop pulling after you hear a couple of these noises. If you pull too hard and too long, you could rip a seam. We DON'T want that!! What you are actually doing is breaking the sizing, which is a stiff plastic strap that we sew into the cap for shape and size maintenance.
100% wool fitteds shrink easily. Newer fitteds are generally made out of 100% polyester (onfields) or 100% cotton or 70% acrylic 30% wool makin them moreshrink resistant.
