I’m finding the laces on the Lavas are too short. The padded tongue takes up a lot of space so I have to compensate but loosening the laces a little. Doing that I barely have room to tie. Looks strange with short bunny ears. Ha!

I got my 2019 retros in yesterday and took a few pics looking at the difference of each of them. Retros in the pic go from 2014s , ‘16s, then ‘19 pair.
One thing I noticed about the 2019s is that the toe is raised a lot more than the others. Also the tongue on 2019 is a lot higher than either the 2014s or 2016s I don’t like it that much on the 2019s but I think the 2016s have a nice sweet spot in terms of height with the 2014s having the shortest one.
This could be due to the fact that they are brand new and I haven’t had a chance to rock them but they are def more raised compared to the others
Looking at each of the hot lava colors above. The 2014s are easily the most dull. The 2016s and 2019s are both very vibrant and pop. And a closer comparison to the color between the 2016s and 2019s below.
I think the 2019s just slightly edge out the 2016s in being brighter. In hand the 2016s have a slightly more pinkish shade to them but so far both of them are very close.
Another change I noticed for the 2019s is how much more padding is in both the sockliner and the tongue. The 2016s have a little more compared the 2014s.
Here’s another pic of the retros together to look at the lava color again and to talk about material quality. So far the 2014s have the worst quality between all of them. I’d say the 2016s have the best feel to them with the 2019s just slightly below it. The 2019s just feel a bit stiffer in the toe but the rest of the materials feel close to the 2016s.
Overall I think all 3 are great retros. I’m gonna turn my 2014s into beaters and wear the 2016s our for nicer occasions. I do feel that the 2016 retro is so far the best one tho as the shape and materials beat out the others but the 2019s are still really good. Only thing I dislike on them is how high the tongue and toe box are but I love how padded it is too.
Nike did a good job on the newest one and I’m happy to own another pair!

Is the leather really premium on the 2016 compared to the 2019? It can’t be premium because that’s what the grand slam back was and even the Pinstripes came close to being a real leather.

Grand Slam pack leather spoiled me. I hope someday we get leather like that on the Lava's.

Never said the leather was premium just better slightly better than the 2019s but def better than the 2014s. If you have the 2019s the leather is very close to the 2016s

I wasn’t saying you did I was just saying that the way they advertised it at the time of the release was premium materials. The comparison pics were good.

Ridiculous, just got a UPS email update saying my FTL pair won’t be here until Wednesday. I understand the Midwest is going through hell right now though. Just frustrated that I didn’t just buy them in-store.
