The 2009 BET Awards fell shortly after the death of Michael Jackson. The King of Pop was honored with a special tribute just days after he passed away. As the 2010 awards show is set to air on Sunday night, another tribute is planned to mark the one-year anniversary of the artist's death.
"This is the biggest show we've ever done," said Stephen Hill, BET's president of music programming and specials. "We're going to recognize it's been a year since he passed. All tributes have been missing one thing, and we are providing the one thing every other tribute has been missing."
Hill declined to share more specific details.
In addition to the Michael Jackson tribute, the BET Awards will be presenting Prince with his own special recognition. Viewers can expect a musical tribute as Prince is honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award. "That Prince is going to allow us to celebrate him, we're humbled," Hill said.
The BET Awards 2010 will air live from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 27, at 8 p.m.
