Brooklyn is quintessential NYC, and is much more neighborhood-oriented and human scaled. Not having seemingly every neighborhood overrun by yuppies is aplus,too.

No, not at all. In fact, in my friend circles, I'm known as the "food guy"...and its not uncommon to take alot of my friends of other races to"stereotypical" food places, but also lots of street food.
BTW, I just have a natural preference for Mexican, Thai, Indian, Brazilian dishes, etc.
SDSU and UCSB are big time party schools.
CSULA is the 13th grade.
UCSC is the stoner/hippie school.
and the rest of the UC's + CSULB are big time Asian co-ed schools with no real social life or sports teams worth mentioning.
Prepare for a dizzying monotony of sprawl as far as the eye can see.
Oh yeah, you can live in a new multi-story house with a burger king salary there too.
If its a guy and a girl, yes.
But if its 2 guys, and they have similar interests, levels of maturity, etc then why not?
I have several college-age friends, and think nothing of it.
