I can't say what he was thinking, neither can you.
My viewpoint is very realistic. After the TM thing, most of the country is well aware of Stand Your Ground.
If you are in Florida and you are going to get physical, there is a very good chance you might get shot.
You are correct, he probably didn't think things would go the way they did.
BUT had he thought prior to pushing dude down rather than being impulsive, he might still be alive today.
Now he's gonna have a real hard time protecting his family.

Had he been up on the law, YES, he would've thought, "This guy might have a gun so how can I deescalate?"
Believe me, I'd be heated too if I saw someone in my wife's face. But I don't agree it's a good enough reason to kill.
For the record, I think the shooter is a punk! But I also think this death could've been avoided had better decisions been made by ALL.
In addition, any MAN with half a brain is going to avoid any type of confrontation when his wife, kids, mom, or family are around because you are putting them in jeopardy. He could have easily said, "What's your problem? Can't you see my girl is pregnant?"
Would it have worked? We'll never...

Maybe the court will take into account that the shooter had prior run-ins with other people and threatened to kill BUT can that be proven?
